Owners Comments & Criticisms
We use this as a monitor when we travel, so we can leave the other one set up. But we've used it quite a bit. Overall it works well enough to keep it for occasional use, but I can't really recommend it, and definitely wouldn't have it as our everyday monitor. Pros: - The digital signal is static free, and private. The sound quality isn't great (sounds kind of processed), but good enough. - It's pretty light weight, so it's easy to travel with and easy to carry. - We had pretty good luck with battery life, but didn't leave it on all the time, usually, and plugged it in when we could or when we were going to be in one spot for a while (dinner, overnight, etc). Cons: - There aren't enough volume adjustments to get it set to the right level. There are about 7 steps of volume, none of which is low enough for us. That's a big problem - we only want to hear when the baby makes loud noise, not pick up every noise in the room and have it sent to our room. Other monitors (with continuous dial adjustments) can easily be set to the right volume level. (Being able to set the volume lower would also make the gaps in the signal, mentioned in another review, less noticeable.) - Every now and then the parent unit locks up - the screen freezes and stops working, and can't be turned off. I have to take out the batteries to get it to reset itself. A few features really make me wonder if any real parents used this before they put it into production: - The superbright blue LED on the baby unit is way too bright, we have to cover it up. - It beeps when you adjust the volume on the parent unit. What genius thought of this? That might make sense on a cell phone on 5th Avenue, but not on a baby monitor in the middle of the night. - The beeping that the parent unit does when it loses the signal is way too loud. The range seems OK, but not especially good or bad. Not great. I don't really see what's so hard about designing a baby monitor (I'll do it for any company that asks!). Don't any of these companies have people with babies that can actually try the product out before they release it?
